حسن بلخياط، and Aïda El Kohen were honored to represent مكتب الدراسات ساوثبريدج at the @Global Health Market Shaping Conference that took place from March 4th to 6th in Barcelona, Spain. #GHMS2024

As a guest speaker, حسن بلخياط،, Founding Partner at مكتب الدراسات ساوثبريدج, was invited to part to the high-level panel on “Exploring the market implications of regionalized manufacturing and local production” moderated by Greg Widmyer (Senior Advisor Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation). 
 
Hassan Belkhayat intervened alongside Nafisa Jiwani (Associate Vice President, Health Initiatives, Office of Health and Agriculture, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation); Yalda Momeni (Senior Specialist, Future Supplier Base Strategy, Gavi); Mohamed Ndiaye (Senior Advisor for Strategy, Planning & Financing, Director of the Delivery Unit, Institut Pasteur Dakar) and Prashant Yadav (Affiliate Professor, INSEAD; Lecturer, Harvard Medical School).

The conference focused on trends toward local production and regional manufacturing, how stakeholders are viewing local production and where they are likely to play a significant role. Speakers explored themes like technology enablement, demand prediction, and financing strategies, laying the groundwork for critical decision-making in a world where economic efficiency isn’t the sole measure of success.

The panel allowed Hassan Belkhayat to talk about key trade offs discussed with governments when defining public policies and key levers and mechanisms to encourage the development of the manufacturing industry. He took as an example the journey of the development of Moroccan pharmaceutical industry and interactions with the successive governments.
He also shed light on the operational issues facing manufacturing industries in Africa, in particular related to working capital needs, advocating for regional mechanism and greater regional integration.
